\nof the Last 179 Years<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marty Peterson is in his 56th year of public service in Idaho. With a lifelong interest in Idaho history and active involvement in Idaho education at all levels, he will discuss many of the high points of education in Idaho since the first school opened in 1837. While many of these items are obscure and largely forgotten in Idaho\u2019s history, they were the building stones that made possible the public school system we have today. But there are also a number of undesirable accomplishments that have been long forgotten that are also part of Idaho public school history. These are largely things that you won\u2019t hear about in a 4th grade Idaho history class.<\/p>\n

Mr. Peterson is a graduate of the University of Idaho. He served on the staff of Senator Frank Church and was state budget director under governors Andrus and Evans. He also served on the gubernatorial transition teams of governors Kempthorne and Otter. He is a former executive director of the Association of Idaho Cities, served as assistant to seven presidents of the University of Idaho and as director of the McClure Center for Public Policy. Marty also serves on the board of Idaho Public Television, the editorial board of the Idaho Statesman, and the advisory boards for the UI School of Journalism and Mass Media and the McClure Center for Public Policy. He is the co-author of two books relating to Idaho history and writes a newspaper column for the Idaho Statesman and the Lewiston Morning Tribune.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
