Happy Holidays from ISBA

Dear Outgoing, Returning, and New Board Members,

I am always amazed at what children can create with whatever is laying around an old junk drawer. Somehow a single popsicle stick, a broken crayon, and some scratch paper can be transformed into a rocket ship or a bracelet. I believe school board members operate with the same level of ingenuity as our children do. As we all prepare to welcome the new year, I think it is a good time to reflect on your hard work and commitment to public education in Idaho. This past year I have seen school boards masterfully problem solve and lead despite being left with few resources and time to do so.

Many of you can attest to the fact that school board service can be both rewarding, and equally exhausting work. The depth of knowledge and information you must acquire, the interpersonal skills necessary, and the critical decision making at times, makes this job not for the faint of heart.

And yet, there has never been a more vital time in Idaho to step up to the plate and help strengthen the future of public education. So, whether you are signing off, in it for the long haul, or just getting started, I want you to know how grateful I am for your service, vision, and creativity. I have faith that each of you will continue to build creative solutions that will benefit our children for years to come. On behalf of the entire ISBA Staff and Executive Board – thank you!  Happy Holidays!

With gratitude,

Misty Swanson, Executive Director
